PE activities will typically change every two to three weeks. Students are placed in one of three groups, and will rotate among the PE instructors. Health classes will be part of the rotation during 2nd and 3rd quarters. A PE rotation schedule will be posted on
Mrs. Schwehr's PE website.
Parents/Guardians of FEMALE STUDENTS should contact Mrs. Schwehr with questions or concerns.

Class Description:
The physical education program for Waterloo Junior High School guides
students in their development of physical skills, including growth in health and
physical fitness. Components include muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular, agility, balance, coordination, rhythmic response, and locomotor skills. This program helps students to understand the concepts underlying these
skills, to form proper safety habits, and to develop attitudes of cooperation,
fair play, and sportsmanship.
During the year, students will gain the knowledge and attitudes to
achieve healthful living throughout their lives while taking part in individual
and team sports, leisure skills, and fitness assessments.
Program Objectives:
Students will be able to:
1. Develop and maintain a proper level of personal physical fitness.
2. Demonstrate the basic skills, techniques, strategies, and physical fitness necessary
to participate in a variety of conditioning exercises, leisure skills, individual & team
sports, and lifetime activities.
3. Acquire desirable social standards and ethical concepts.
4. Develop a desirable self-concept and an effective self-image.
4. Practice proper personal hygiene on a daily basis.
Class Requirements:
1. Each student must come ready to participate, wearing proper PE attire. This
includes their: WJHS PE shirt and shorts, socks, and gym shoes. Shoes laces
must be visibly tied tight enough for shoes to stay on during activity.
Sweats may be worn on cool days as long as they were not worn
to school. Three dress cuts in one quarter will result in a student referral. Each
additional dress cut that quarter will also receive a student referral. Six dress
cuts in one quarter will result in a failing grade.
(PE clothes should be taken home on Fridays to be washed.)
(PE clothes should not be altered. Example: cutting sleeves off or drawing on uniform) 2. All jewelry (with the exception of small post earrings) should be removed
before the teacher takes attendance. This includes friendship bracelets, hair
ties on the wrist, ankle bracelets, watches, rings, and necklaces.
It is advised to keep a small container in your PE locker to store your jewelry.
3. Students should be on time to their squad lines or a tardy will be given. Upon
reaching a third tardy in one quarter, a student referral will be written.
4. Students are expected to participate in all activities to the best of his/her ability.
Illness/Injury:
In the event that a student is ill or injured, he/she may be excused from P.E. for two days with a parent note or email. The note or email should be sent directly to the PE teacher and include the date and explanation regarding the nature of the injury. Please do not call the school office. Injuries lasting longer than two days will require a doctor’s note. Extended doctor notes stating "until further notice" must be updated every thirty days.
If a student is out of PE, they must also sit out of WJHS athletic practices/games, school sponsored athletic activities (ex: a dodgeball tournament), and physical activity at recess.
Grading System:
* Each student will earn 5 daily points based on:
1. Involvement in the daily activity
2. Demonstration of good sportsmanship by following the rules and treating
others and the equipment with respect
3. Cooperation with instructors and peers
Students will not be allowed to participate in class without proper shoes,
thus resulting in a dress cut and a loss of their 5 daily points.
* Responsibility points (50 points)
Points will be deducted as follows:
1. Dress cut ........................................ -10
2. Jewelry .............................................-5
3. Gum .................................................-5
4. Inappropriate Behavior ........................-5
5. Tardy to gym or squad line .................-1
* Written assignments will also be part of the P.E./Health grade (varied points)
Gym Procedures & Expectations:
1. Students should leave all books in their hall lockers.
2. Students will report to the locker room and change for class.
3. Students will report directly to their squads when they are dressed.
4. Attendance will be taken five minutes after the tardy bell has rung.
5. If a student is late to class, they must let the teacher know they have arrived.
6. Gum and jewelry will not be permitted in PE class.
7. PE lockers must be locked when not in use. Do not share combinations with others!
8. No glass bottles or aerosol sprays are permitted in the locker room.
9. Students should not touch or disturb any equipment until told to do so by the teacher.
10. Students should treat everyone with respect and display good sportsmanship.
11. Students must report all injuries to the teacher and get a pass before going to the nurse.
12. Permission is required to leave the gym for drinks and use of the restroom.
13. After class, students will sit in the south side bleachers and wait for the bell to ring.
Behavioral Consequences:
1. Verbal warning
2. Removal from the activity
3. Phone call home
4. Disciplinary referral
*Consequences may be skipped depending on the severity of the incident.
